Chemical Peels
Chemical peel brings about a significant improvement in skin
rejuvenation. In this procedure a low concentration of the peeling
agent is
mixed with a special base prior to its application. Application
of the peeling solution on the skin initiates the peeling process.
This causes the topmost (dead layer of the skin) to slowly
peel off. In a few weeks a healthier skin replaces the old skin.

Why would I want to have a CHEMICAL PEEL done?
A chemical peel is done to remove fine lines and wrinkles and
to even out your skin tone, leaving you with younger looking
smoother
skin. A peel can be done over the entire face or just specific
areas. It does not replace a facelift as it won’t eliminate
sagging skin, but many patients benefit from a combination of the
two procedures.
It can also be done over the arms, hands, and chest. It generally
is not as strong as laserbrasion, but there is less recovery time
for the skin after the procedure.
What are the different CHEMICAL PEELS available?
Glycolic Acid and TCA (Trichloroacetic Acid), and Jessner, are
the most common peel solutions available today.
The Glycolic Acid peel is a light to heavy peel which can be repeated
every two weeks for several months if desired. This peel has almost
no recovery time so it is perfect for the patient who needs to
return to normal activities immediately.
A stronger TCA Chemical Peel can also be done for the treatment
of deeper wrinkles and to reduce the lines around the lower eyelids
and lips. This peel can be done alone or at the same time as other
plastic surgery procedures such as a facelift or eyelid surgery.
All three peels result in the reduction of fine wrinkles, a more
even skin tone and younger looking skin. The deeper the peel, the
more dramatic the result.
How long is a CHEMICAL PEEL procedure?
This procedure takes between 15 minutes and 1 hour depending
on how much is being peeled.
What will I experience in the days following a CHEMICAL PEEL?
Following a Glycolic Acid Peel, you will experience mild pinkness
similar to a mild sunburn for a day or so. The Jessner Peel,
and the TCA chemical peel are followed by crusting which will
last
up to 10 days.
